Four Monks 四僧
The mountains series is very close to my heart. The Yellow Mountains series is what kicked off my career as a professional artist, which started as a senior art project, that paid homage to a Chinese landscape that was gifted to my grandfather from one of his close friends. As I went throughout college, my Yellow Mountains painting followed me and many of my friends fell in love with this piece. This ultimately inspired me to create prints of my work so that my friends could have them.
As I matured as an artist, this later developed into the mountain series, which is inspired by a combination of my Chinese heritage, experience in the classroom, and passion for education. In each of the paintings are four monks: one older monk and three student monks. To me, the older monk represents a teacher leading his students to accomplish tremendous feats with nothing else but their vision, willpower, determination, and the support of each other. These paintings serve as a testament to what we can accomplish together as humans, that any obstacle can be surmounted, and that any goal is achievable.
This helps to motivate me as I help lead the way in education through the creation of my charter schools to make education what it should be, so that all students can achieve their dreams. The paintings are named accordingly to the different traits that have served me in my personal journey.

Spirit Animals
The animal series on the other hand, is a bit more fun and silly. Each animal is depicted using blue and red. Why do you ask? Well, like any other artist, I was at Coachella having the time of my life. And of course, instead of listening to the bands play, I stumbled through the different stages into a tent filled with colored pencils, paint, watercolor paper, bean bag chairs, and still life models.
As a professional, the joy of painting is sometimes removed. Painting to me at this point was work. It was taxing and even stressful at times. I did not enjoy the creative process. After, finding my way into this tent, with no pressure and in the company of friends, I thoroughly enjoyed myself creating whatever I wanted. I found creating art to be truly fun and enjoyable again, like when I was a kid.
From my time in this little tent, I stumbled upon this awesome color combination of a neon red and electric blue that just worked together. I brought it back to my studio and combined it with different Chinese animals themes, which resulted in the Panda, Koi, and Elephant. Taking it a step further, I plan to recreate the 12 Chinese Zodiac Animals in this style, to bring something playful, striking, and different, while remembering to have a little fun.
